While I was in Spotlight I found the L Letterpress Kit which is a cheapo plastic device that kinda sorta produces letterpress goods. While I wasn’t interested in the kit, they also sold precut paper to use with the machine so I bought some to test on the press.
Suprisingly the paper did well, almost as good as Lettra and has the same whiteness. As you can see from the pics above the impression was nice and deep. The only issue with using this paper really is that the sizes are for the US, so this paper size is A2 (5.5” x 4.25” or 14cm x 10.8cm), plus the paper works out to be a little more expensive.
Anyway I will be putting up some of these invitations on my Etsy store as soon as I buy some envelopes to fit them.
I’ve been using Lettra so far in my printing tests but as I have been ordering it from the US I’d like to find a stock closer to home. I ordered a sample roll of Somerset and I have to say while it gave a okay impression, overall I wasn’t that impressed with it. Although it was 300gsm, which is the same as the Lettra I got, it just didn’t have the same weight as Lettra and didn’t feel as luxurious.
